Free Professional Development for Exploring Computer Science *Past Event*

Looking for some free PD to introduce computer science into your class, school, or district?

MMSA is recruiting for free summer PD (in fact, we pay you to attend!) to train teachers to implement the Exploring Computer Science curriculum. This is a survey course that focuses on computer science principles, inquiry, and equity. It provides an entry point to the broad field of computer science for students in grades 7-11. The course includes an introduction to programming, but covers so much more.

You get –

  • A free, week-long summer institute in Maine with overnight room, breakfast and lunch provided, plus four additional training sessions during the school year (usually on Saturdays )
  • Access to five Maine-based video lessons that complement the ECS units, and emphasize computer science applications in Maine businesses and organizations
  • A copy of the ECS curriculum
  • Support from a growing network of ME teachers of computer science
  • A $300 stipend ($200 for the summer, $25 per Saturday session)

This year’s summer professional development institute will take place the week of August 7 through 11, 2017 and will most likely be at the UMA campus in Augusta.

We have ECS teachers from Madawaska to York and Rumford to Lubec! Join Cohort 3 and become part the network of almost 50 trained teachers from our first two cohorts. This is the last opportunity for stipended professional development in this NSF developed curriculum!! Applications are due by February 10, 2017.

Additional information and the application are available at https://mmsa.formstack.com/forms/exploring_computer_science_application .
