Digital Media Specialist

The Maine Math & Science Alliance (MMSA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that finds inspiring new ways to get people excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics today, so that our youth can become the innovators and workforce of tomorrow. MMSA supports educators by:

Position Title: digital media specialist

FTE: 100%

Salary Range: $40,000 to $50,000


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; 
  • Demonstrated experience in videography, photography, and development of diverse digital media assets; skills in recording, editing and uploading videos for use in online courses, web content, and other applications.  Preference given to applicants that can provide a portfolio of past work; 
  • Able to conduct and film interviews, capture b-roll, and take photographs in the field;
  • Proficiency with videography software and Adobe creative suite (Adobe Premiere, Audition, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.);
  • Source stock footage, music, photos, and other assets as needed; 
  • Manage and organize different media assets and files;
  • Comfort with web-based technologies such as Airtable, Dropbox, Vimeo and familiarity with Microsoft office – with a willingness to learn new technologies as necessary; 
  • Comfort with creating dynamic communication methods including videos, FAQs, infographics, slides, scientific posters, and more; 
  • Comfort with operating in video conferencing platforms (i.e. Zoom) is preferred; 
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an essential and productive member of a team.

Purpose of the Position 

The Digital Media Assistant will show initiative and leadership as this person supports programming teams in designing digital assets, (video, photo, and others) to build the capacity of our organization and tell the story of MMSA and the impact of our work on the individuals and communities we work with.  This will include recording, editing, and uploading videos to use in training experiences with educators and students, videos for marketing on social media, fundraising materials, and more. 

Digital assets developed by the position will be used in a wide variety of contexts including the LearnDash learning management system (WordPress based), website, in-person and virtual training sessions, social media etc. This position is responsible for “telling the story” of MMSA through different media in engaging ways to different audiences. 

This position will assist with ensuring that Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance has current information, equipment, and techniques to be an innovative leader The assistant will have the opportunity to contribute to a Maine-based non-profit with a national reputation for quality in STEM education, and a strong and supportive project team. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with team members to “tell the story” of the projects through digital media (videos, photos, social media and marketing); 
  • Capture digital assets in the field, and source stock from online databases;
  • Develop and organize digital assets for different audiences; 
  • Manage the digital media components of projects; 
  • Create videos for marketing on social media, fundraising materials, and more;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

MMSA offers a flexible work schedule that includes working off-site with the approval of their supervisor.  Staff are expected to be in the office for bi-monthly Tuesday staff meetings and at other times as needed. This position will need to travel throughout the state, including some overnights, to locations elsewhere in Maine.
