Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom
For teachers who have been implementing the practices from Peter Liljedahl’s original book, Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, and those just looking to get started, this book will share updates on the original thinking classroom practices, a host of mathematics tasks for elementary classrooms, and specific guidance, scripts, and supports to illuminate ways to bring tasks and mathematical thinking to life in your classroom.
This workshop offers the opportunity to read and explore the ideas in this book with other educators. We’ll begin with a full-day, in-person session in Augusta on Friday, October 4, 2024, to delve into the practices and tasks together and then continue with three additional follow-up sessions as we continue reading and exploring the text and implementing ideas with students.
Like the text, the tasks and examples in this book study will focus on mathematics instruction for grades K-5, but anyone who is interested in deepening their understanding about building a thinking classroom is welcome to attend.
Participants will need to obtain their own copy of the book Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, Grades K-5.
