Engaging Mathematics Learners: Professional Learning Series for Special Educators

WHO WILL BENEFIT:
  • Special Educators
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
  • Are you looking for ways to engage reluctant learners (whether remote, face-to-face, or hybrid)?
  • Would it be helpful to have some ready to use or adapt resources for such routines and activities?
  • Would you like to collaborate with grade level educators on how best to implement ideas in your setting?
DETAILS: Join a group of special educators (maximum size of 15 per group) to explore math routines and use of collaborative tools to promote student discourse and interaction.

Each session will focus on 1-2 types of math routines with options for online tools (such as Google Slides/Jamboards) and face-to-face structures to engage students and to make student thinking visible.

ATTEND: The FREE* series consists of 4 interactive live 1.25 hour sessions. 

Given the interactive nature of the series, joining the live sessions is necessary. The sessions will not be recorded.

Choose a Cohort depending on the content of interest. 

COHORT A: Addition and Subtraction (Content aligned to Grade 1 & Grade 2 Mathematics Standards)

4 live interactive Zoom sessions on Thursdays from 3:30-4:45: 2/25, 3/11, 3/25, 4/8

COHORT B:  Early Multiplication/Division &  Early Fraction Concepts  (Content aligned to Grade 3 & Grade 4 Mathematics Standards) 

4 live interactive Zoom sessions on Thursdays from 3:30-4:45: 3/4, 3/18, 4/1, 4/15

COHORT C: Whole # Multiplication/Division & Fraction Operations (content aligned to Grade 4 – Grade 6 standards)  

4 live interactive Zoom sessions on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:45: 2/23, 3/9, 3/23, 4/6

Facilitators: Cheryl Tobey (MMSA), Becky Tapley (MMSA) & Nancy Lander (Math4ME)

Cost:

Sessions fees are waived for this series due to support from Maine DOE
