Your help could further MMSA’s vision of a brighter STEM future for the State of Maine and the nation. Today, I ask you to support MMSA and become a part of the movement to support exciting new ways for our youth to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math.
Teachers often hear, “What’s this “new math” that our kids are learning? Why is everything so different than when we were learning math?” Raising awareness of the shift from procedural to conceptual understanding in mathematics is a key to engaging parents and allowing them to better support their children with math. The focus of Family Math Nights is on family involvement and exploration of math concepts in a non-threatening and engaging manner. Activities are hands-on, use readily available materials, and link mathematics concepts to real-world contexts. Participants will learn how to organize and run a Family Math Night in your community. You will engage in sample activities, and learn how to plan and conduct an event at your school.
This fabulous workshop is currently under development. The date and venue will be announced soon. Please join our workshop mailing list so that we can send you the information when it becomes available.
