Implementing OpenSciEd NGSS-Designed Middle School Curricula: Grades 6-9 Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space Science

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

 

  • Engage in a professional learning community as you implement an OpenSciEd Unit
  • Become familiar with the shifts in the Next Generation Science Standards and how to successfully enact NGSS-designed materials
  • Enhance your own understanding of the science content and pedagogical strategies in each unit to better support students’ classroom engagement and 3-dimensional learning”
DETAILS: PREREQUISITE: Getting to Know OpenSciEd must be taken prior to this course. 4, 2-hour synchronous sessions spread across 8 weeks. Exact meeting schedule will be developed to accommodate the availability of participants.

Working to implement an NGSS-designed OpenSciEd unit in your classroom? Work with this professional learning community across the state to explore implementation strategies, problems of practice, and opportunities to extend or modify learning. In this pathway, participants will engage in a professional learning community as you enact an OpenSciEd unit of your choice.

Participants will explore student thinking throughout the unit, problems of practice, and opportunities for extension or modification.
