Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance
As instruction shifts to meet the vision of the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), so too will the way we monitor and measure students’ progress toward meeting these new standards. How do we provide authentic opportunities for students to demonstrate evidence of their learning in the classroom? In this three-part professional learning opportunity, participants will be introduced to performance task assessments by discussing design principles, reviewing examples, and considering the key components that make up a quality task. Participants will devise a plan for developing their own or trying out an existing example in their own classroom, prior to reconvening *live* virtually (*live*) to receive feedback and support on their progress. Prior to the final virtual session, participants will administer an assessment and collect student work which will be shared. Participants are encouraged to participate with others from their grade level/school.
Workshop is for K-12 educators, curriculum coordinators and coaches.
