Rethinking Science Education with OpenSciEd*

✸THIS IS AN UPCOMING OPPORTUNITY✸
August 16-19, 2021 8am-2pm

WHO WILL BENEFIT:
  • Grades 6-8 Educators
  • Instructional Coaches
BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION:
  • Access to high-quality professional learning using a nationally recognized, open-sourced, curriculum and delivered by local, Maine, educational professionals.
  • Individual supply kits to engage in key lessons and activities
DETAILS: Using the freely available, NGSS-designed curriculum materials from OpenSciEd as a base, individual teachers and district teams will be empowered to rethink their current approach to science education as they critique and align national scale resources with what will work for their school, their culture, and their community context.

OpenSciEd is one of several available curriculum resources that has been vetted by EQuIP and is a useful tool as teachers begin to understand the three dimensions of the NGSS. This rigorous academy will walk participants through an entire unit of study from OpenSciEd – preparing participants to use the curriculum on day one of school (if they choose) as well as providing an opportunity to reflect on the significant shifts in teaching and learning that accompany the NGSS. We are specifically focusing on 6th, 7th, and 8th grade units.

*Middle school materials will be used as examples. High school or elementary school materials can be added with sufficient enrollment
