What is Math Discourse, and why is it important to incorporate it into my teaching practices? This session is intended for K-12 educators who are interested in learning how to lead productive mathematical discussions. Participants will observe lessons as examples of what math discourse looks like in action, and consider how these principles could be implemented in their classroom. Teachers will learn why student talk is critical to learning, and how they can encourage productive discourse in their lessons. They will self-reflect on their current use of discourse, and set goals for what their next steps will be for incorporating student math talks. (This workshop can stand alone, or can be used as a follow-up to our Incorporating the Eight Mathematical Practices workshop, as a way to begin shifting teaching practices by focusing on CCSS.MP3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.)
This fabulous workshop is currently under development. The date and venue will be announced soon. Please join our workshop mailing list so that we can send you the information when it becomes available.
Registration: $75 pp
(Please note that there is a discount for people who attend both the AM and PM workshop. The full day is $130 pp)
