June 23, 9 am to noon: STEM and The “New” Standards

Introduction to STEM Integration Across the K-12 Curriculum

Date: TBAEducators

Full-day workshop

STEM Education Specialist – Joyce Tugel

How do we make STEM engaging and accessible for K-12 educators and students while ensuring curriculum is driven by learning standards? This session is intended for K-12 educators who are interested in learning about the guiding principles of STEM integration. Participants will experience interdisciplinary STEM lessons as examples of what the guiding principles look like in action, and consider how these principles could be implemented in their classroom.

MMSA’s STEM Education Specialist Joyce Tugel leads this professional development opportunity. Her work is primarily focused on teacher leadership, professional development in the areas of science curriculum, instruction and formative assessment, and implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards. Joyce is a co-author of two books in the NSTA Press Uncovering Student Ideas in Science series and editor of Notes from the Field–Teaching for Conceptual Change: Uncovering Student Thinking in Science Through Action Research. Joyce serves on the National Science Education Leadership Association Board of Directors, and has served as the National Science Teachers Association District II Director and Professional Development Division Director. She is a Fellow of the National Academy for Science and Mathematics Education Leadership and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching.
