The MMSA math consulting team supports mathematics educators through project work, consulting, and curriculum development. MMSA strives to identify opportunities to support educators in learning how to integrate mathematical practices into STEM learning, both for in-person and virtual instruction. We work statewide to provide educators and administrators with the support to integrate high quality mathematics learning throughout the preK-12 experience, with a focus on K-6. This spring, MMSA added a new team member, Becky Tapley, to further our work alongside both in and out of school educators across Maine and the country to support growth in math through robust coaching and consulting.
Becky is a newly hired STEM Education Mathematics Specialist but she has a rich background in mathematics education. Becky graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Lake Forest College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Maine. She holds a K-8 teaching certification and a grades 5-8 mathematics endorsement. Prior to joining MMSA, she taught internationally at the Antwerp International School, and returned to teach in Maine at the Scarborough Middle School and the Brooklin School.
During her 18 years of teaching, she developed her passion for teaching mathematics and collaborating with other teachers to support students’ intellectual and emotional growth. Becky had the honor of being the 2016 Hancock County Teacher of the Year and 2017 Maine Teacher of the Year Finalist. In her spare time, Becky enjoys playing piano, taking walks, reading, and listening to great podcasts.
