13 Years of Empowering Students with Citizen Science

iWonder is a student-led, place-based, science program that promotes scientific and environmental literacy by engaging students in close collaboration with scientific experts and community members in field-based projects. This program links Computational Thinking with citizen science and civic engagement through student-led projects. In the spring of 2023, Rebecca Clark Uchenna traveled with iWonder teachers Marci Train and Megan McCall to the annual NSTA Conference, held in Atlanta, GA. During this three-day conference, the group presented iWonder programming to educational professionals from around the country, sharing the passion of place-based education. In the fall of 2023, iWonder kicked off its final school year, reaching close to 100 students from Maine and Alabama.

As iWonder winds down its final year of iteration, we’d like to congratulate all members of the iWonder community on their hard work, accomplishments and dedication over the years. Many of the teachers and experts have been with iWonder since its inception over 13 years ago! It is exciting to think about the possibilities as iWonder transitions into its next chapter. Thank you to all our partners, students and iWonder friends!
