What this workshop is
A hands-on, full-day workshop for K–5 teachers who want science to drive learning, not sit on the sidelines. You’ll explore how a single phenomenon can anchor an entire unit and naturally connect reading, writing, math, and art. Breakfast and lunch included!
Why center science in elementary?
Science gives students real reasons to read, write, discuss, and use math. Phenomena-based units spark curiosity, create coherence across subjects, and strengthen core skills while meeting NGSS, ELA, and math standards.
What you’ll do
- Try out sensemaking routines and investigations
- Explore sample K–5 units that use real phenomena to support literacy, numeracy, social studies, art, technology, and more
- See how science can provide an application of standards and skills in reading, writing, and math
- Start planning your own interdisciplinary, science-centered unit
- Leave with tools you can use right away
- Receive contact hours
