Bringing Local Phenomena into Science Classrooms

Place-Based Learning for Elementary Science at Scale (PeBLES2) was a four-year project that supported educators in creating science learning experiences to help students make sense of their world by connecting to local phenomena, communities, and cultures.

To support equitable access to place-based science learning opportunities, participants designed and tested a 4th-grade earth science unit and professional learning that invites upper elementary teachers to incorporate locally and culturally relevant phenomena into their instruction.

Free Place-Based Units & Resources

PeBLES2 created free, high-quality, place-based science units and teacher support tools. These resources are designed to be adaptable to your local environment and aligned with 3D science standards.
