On July 31, 2024, the inaugural Maine Computer Science Education Summit gathered 182 educators, policymakers, industry experts, and stakeholders to share insights, best practices, and innovative strategies for integrating CS education more comprehensively across K-12 in Maine. MMSA has synthesized the events of the day into a report highlighting findings and recommendations.

The summit brought together educators, administrators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of computer science (CS) education in the state. Through collaborative sessions and discussions, participants identified key priorities and actionable steps to advance CS education.

Findings from the summit regarding how to advance computer science competency in Maine include:

  • Organizing community engagement events, such as tech nights and workshops, to connect educators, students, parents, and local businesses while addressing real challenges and promoting awareness of CS.
  • Creating a curated list of vetted resources for educators.
  • Establishing training and mentorship programs to support educators.
  • Promoting awareness of existing opportunities and institutional partnerships to strengthen the CS ecosystem.
