Forecasted snow upended plans for the in-person 2025 Maine State Science Fair, but that didn’t stop students from bringing their best to the virtual fair, held on March 29.
With more than 200 projects in the competition, students won recognition across numerous categories, not to mention a total of $900,000 in scholarships.
The top prizes—gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively—were awarded to:
- Ryan Werthmann of Falmouth high school, for A Data-Driven Exploration of Albumin-Creatinine Ratio as a Biomarker for Myocardial Infarction Risk: A Multivariate Analysis
- Zelda Anesko of Brunswick High School, for A Computer Model for Efficient Offshore Wind Farm Siting in the North Atlantic
- Sofie Rueter of Bangor high school, for Improving the Effectivity of Nitrate Removal in Biosand Filters Using N. oculata
A number of schools wrote articles marking the collective success of their students, including Bangor High School, Belfast Community Outreach Program for Education (BCOPE), and Dexter High School.
More details can be found in the write up from the Portland Press Herald.
