2022-23 Tournament

MMSA ran the Maine State Destination Imagination (DI) Tournament at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Teams performed their solutions to one of seven STEAM-based Team Challenges in the form of eight-minute skits for a team of appraisers, and also competed in Instant Challenges, revealed to them for the first time at the tournaments. Teams connected with students from other schools across the state, and celebrated their innovations and teamwork at Celebration Ceremonies. In 2022, The Starry, Not Starry team from Winterport won first place in the Elementary Level Fine Arts Challenge for their well-crafted story about a “trickster in a tricky situation.” And, in 2023, the Yarmouth Elementary School’s Smart Puppies team won first place in the Elementary Level Technical Challenge by creating two unique “puzzle solvers’ with which to solve a puzzle. To finish off the 2023 season, Camden Rockport Middle School’s team, Dungeons + DIgons headed to Global Finals in Kansas City, MO, to present their Elementary Level Fine Arts challenge solution that “flipped the script” on the classic story of the Wizard of Oz.

We want to express a huge thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, Team Managers, and families that helped make these tournaments a reality. In addition, congratulations to all Maine teams that used the creative process to create new solutions. MMSA recognizes the extraordinary amount of effort, perseverance, and spirit you displayed. STEAM on!
