Apply by Jan. 16, 2026, for a chance to get a Numeracy Materials Kit and strategies to bring back to your classroom!

Deepening Early Numeracy Through Rich Math Talk, Purposeful Games, and Outdoor Place-Based Learning

This early numeracy initiative empowers educators to build on children’s natural thinking and brings math to life through games, outdoor learning, math talk routines, and connects caregivers and the community as partners in early math learning.

Why Early Numeracy?

Research shows that early math skills are one of the strongest predictors of long-term academic success, even more than early literacy! Early numeracy supports children’s confidence, curiosity, and ability to see math in the world around them.

Students participate in a math activity in the woods. There is a square outlined by wooden yard sticks and students sitting around it.

Overview & How to Apply

Pairs of educators from the same school, who support PK–2 mathematics learning, will select one of three regional cohorts and apply together by submitting a single application by January 16, 2026.

Participants in the project receive a Numeracy Kit with ready-to-use materials, resources, and games to bring back to their classrooms, and will gain research-backed strategies for enhancing their lessons using their kits during in-person professional learning sessions.

Project participation for educators includes attending three in-person learning sessions as part of their chosen cohort, ongoing virtual support through June, hosting an extended learning event at their school, and completing project evaluation surveys and interviews.
