Empowering Educator Voices in Science Education Policy
MMSA’s Science Education Policy Fellowship, provides both a community space and professional development for teachers looking to include their voices in science education policy decisions and spaces.
This fellowship brings together a cohort of eight pre-K- 12 teachers from across Maine during the 2026- 2027 academic year to learn about and find opportunities to engage in local and statewide science education policy. Fellows learn best practices for engaging in policy initiatives and have chances to apply those skills in real situations.
The MMSA team works with the fellows to find meaningful opportunities to ensure their voices are included in the policymaking process. Examples include: contributing questions to gubernatorial debates, testifying at local school board meetings, or visiting the Maine State House to meet with policymakers. All activities are guided by participants’ desires, ensuring the fellowship addresses the issues they deem most important.
