Education
I earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with concentrations in Social Science and Human Biology. I later completed a Professional Certificate in Filmmaking at Maine Media College. The lifelong educators in my family have also had a profound influence. What is your teaching/learning philosophy?
As a lifelong learner, I believe people learn best in inclusive environments where each person can be seen and thrive as a unique individual. That mirroring can open up a world of possibilities, helping us see and believe in what we are capable of, both individually and as a community. What is your STEM passion area?
I’m so fascinated by AI that it feels impossible to discuss STEM without mentioning it. Across a lifetime, my passion has been biology. It began at age three, befriending the colorful creatures who occupied my grandfather’s almost mythical pond. What do you like most about your role at MMSA?
For me, at the heart of fundraising is the joy of honoring generosity and the powerful connections created when people come together to advance real, innovative solutions. It’s uplifting to see someone light up when they talk about the kinds of transformation that mean the most to them and celebrate their role in that impact.Favorite STEM-related memory
In high school, my AP Biology teacher Mr. Len perceived a potential in me that I didn’t know existed. That helped open vast landscapes of understanding. My final project on the science of dreams sparked a curiosity about neuroscience that continues to this day. What did you do before you worked at MMSA?
I bring more than 20 years of nonprofit experience to my MMSA work, with the last decade focused on development for a Maine-based public library. My background also includes work with a variety of Maine nonprofits and a national health organization. Throughout my career, I’ve been inspired by the ways that thoughtful storytelling can unite people to create meaningful change. What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m often energized by creating or experiencing something beautiful, especially with family and friends. Traditional and modern music, language and writing, photography and film, and skating and exploring the outdoors are some of my favorite ways to do that. I feel fortunate to be part of an MMSA community that is filled with so many creative and curious people.
