Something you’re proud of at MMSA

Being part of a stellar research team.

What is your teaching/learning philosophy?

My goal as an educator is to inspire a passion for lifelong learning in my students. Education is a journey that extends beyond the classroom and into my students’ lives. By fostering student engagement, promoting practical application, and maintaining a student-centered approach, I aim to prepare students not only for successful careers but also to be responsible citizens who make a positive impact on others, the environment, and society.

What is your STEM passion area?

Outdoor, environmental and place-based education. I am incredibly passionate about connecting people

What do you like most about your role at MMSA?

I am excited to help organizations leverage data to show impact, demonstrate reach, improve programming, and influence policy

What did you do before you worked at MMSA?

Most recently, I was an Assistant Professor at Salem State University. Before then, I was a Senior Field Instructor with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and a Science Teacher at the McCall Outdoor Science School.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy hiking, birding, fishing, cooking, and exploring new coffee shops.

What memory from your childhood would you like to share that exemplifies why you do the STEM education related work that you do?

In elementary school, I was part of a volunteer citizen science project monitoring blue bird houses at a local nature preserve. It was such a great childhood experience to blend my love of birds, nature, and science.
