AI Task Force Seeks Input from Public on Recommendations
Posted on

A preliminary set of recommendations from the Maine Artificial Intelligence Task Force(opens in a new tab) has been published by the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future.
The Task Force is exploring how current and future AI developments could impact Maine. It works with communities, industries, and organizations to understand the risks, opportunities, and policy actions needed to protect residents and strengthen the state’s economy, workforce, and public services.
Through Executive Director Ruth Kermish-Allen’s participation in the task force, MMSA has had a direct say in how these recommendations have been drafted. While not a final representation of the task force’s work, this version is intended to allow the public to review and respond to recommendations so far.
The recommendations, which reflect AI’s policy implications for Maine’s economy, workforce, education, health care, government, and residents, are broken down into three major sections, which focus on the following:
- The future workforce’s relationship with AI.
- How to protect Maine citizens from potential negative effects of AI.
- How public entities like state and local governments can use AI to work more effectively and efficiently.
The Task Force welcomes public comment on the draft recommendations online through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
