Through MMSA’s Building Strong Foundations early numeracy initiative, more than 80 Maine PreK–2 educators gained new research-backed strategies that brought math to life through games, outdoor learning, math talk routines, and family engagement.
Free resources created through this initiative include:
- Pamphlet for students’ caregivers(opens in a new tab) with ideas to encourage early numeracy.
- Early Numeracy Activity Cards for PreK and Kindergarten(opens in a new tab) and for 1st and 2nd grade(opens in a new tab).
- Stories, reflections, and activity inspiration from educator participants.

Building Strong Foundations was funded by the Maine Department of Education as a component of their Maine State Numeracy Action Plan(opens in a new tab).
